Yesterday I had the privilege of recognising some of the outstanding people that make up our community at the annual City of Karratha Australia Day Awards breakfast at the Red Earth Arts Precinct.
Each year on January 26, we hold the awards breakfast to celebrate local residents who have been nominated across our six award categories. We announced each of the very deserving winners alongside our generous category sponsors and thank them for their dedication to our community.
I would like to once again congratulate all of this year’s winners and nominees and highlight our 2021 citizen of the year Ross Humphries. Ross has shown outstanding commitment to the community through his volunteering efforts in the sporting community and is an excellent role model.
In addition to these awards, Australia Day also saw us welcome 60 new citizens to the City of Karratha, a proud day for our community and these new residents who have made the decision to become Australian.
Australia Day concluded with the community coming together, this year on Hampton Oval in Dampier with people gathering for a picnic followed by a fireworks display.
A big thank you to our generous sponsors who help us to ensure these Australia Day events are delivered year after year; Horizon Power, Pilbara Ports Authority, Rio Tinto and Woodside-operated North West Shelf Project.
I hope you had a fantastic Australia Day and were able to reflect on how lucky we are to be a part of this wonderful community and call Australia home.
