As we all know, the global COVID-19 pandemic is a rapidly evolving, unprecedented emergency we all need to take very seriously.
Your City is acting on advice from State and Federal government authorities to safeguard our community.
While the City continues to operate, a COVID-19 internal working group is complying with and implementing all directives from State and Federal agencies during these extraordinary times.
In line with the Commonwealth Government’s latest restrictions, all City facilities have been closed until further notice.
City staff have found some inventive ways to deliver some of the services usually offered at our facilities, such as the libraries team taking Rhyme time and Story time online via the City of Karratha Libraries FB group. Youth and community engagement teams are exploring ways to offer youth and community programs online. Karratha Leisureplex fitness instructors are offering home work out programs. Karratha Airport is listed as an essential facility and will remain operational until directed by the State Government to close.
City-run events have been postponed in the short term and will continue to be reviewed in the future.
The most important thing we can all do to protect ourselves, our loved ones and one another is practice good hygiene and social distancing at all times. Please take self-isolation measures seriously. Staying home can save lives but it will only be effective if we all do the right thing. You should only leave your home to buy groceries, fuel and medicines, attend essential appointments, or exercise outdoors while keeping a safe distance from others.
I urge everyone to access the WA Department of Health website for accurate, up to date and credible information about COVID-19. Rumour and speculation on Facebook pages is irresponsible and contributes to increases stress and anxiety levels among the community.
