On Thursday 8 August, Karratha marked 50 years as a gazetted town. From bare farmland on the edge of the Pilbara coastline to the hub of a thriving regional city, Karratha has undergone major growth over the last 50 years.

To help commemorate this milestone Council has produced a photographic book showcasing the history of Karratha in a carefully curated collection of photographs from our local history archive and local photographers.

These special books were launched at the annual FeNaClNG Festival in early August and 600 sold over that weekend alone! Since then we have sold and sent books right across the state with some even heading over east. Currently there are just over 300 of these books left in stock and while they are a limited edition, once sold out we will look at doing a secondary print run should there be enough demand.

It is exciting to see so many of our residents, past and present celebrate Karratha’s 50th anniversary and purchase these books. Karratha is a spectacular place and whether passing through or settling down, it leaves a lasting impression on all those lucky enough to spend time here.

Our Karratha 50 books are available for purchase at the Karratha Tourism and Visitor Centre and at our administration office on Welcome Road in Karratha. Books are $25 each. If you know someone now based elsewhere in Australia or abroad who would love to have one of these on their coffee table a postage option is available, just give our Customer Service team a call on 08 9186 8555.
