What a couple of weeks we have had!

Another FeNaClNG – this time the 47th – finished with a fantastic fireworks display on the weekend, and as usual, it drew thousands of people to the Bulgarra ovals. One of our most-loved community events, the City is proud to support the Karratha Dampier Lions Club who put so much in to this function. Once again there was lots of fabulous family entertainment, live music, handiwork, cars and boats, campers and crafts.

I love the Friday evening float parade and it was great to see so many people lining the streets cheering and enjoying this wonderful family event – this year with an emphasis on our 50th birthday. The Primary School floats are always my favourite and this year Pegs Creek just pipped Karratha Primary to take the winners spot. The Port Walcott Surf Life Saving Club was another float full of enthusiastic youngsters and they took out the Community Group Award.

The Cossack Art Awards are still on display after the magnificent gala awards evening we had on July 20th. This year we had the Governor of Western Australia, the Honourable Kim Beazley AC attend to speak and he did so with humour and aplomb.

I encourage everyone to head to Cossack to view the exhibition for free 10am-3pm daily and to vote in the Horizon Power People’s Choice Award.

There is a diverse range of workshops and activities on offer as part of the public program. Head to www.cossackartawards.com.au to learn more.

This coming weekend we have the annual Karratha Community Association Yaburarra Walk along the hill trail. Always a terrific family event, the Big 50 will be there, with refreshments available and buses to take people back to their cars.

Thank you to all the volunteers, children, teachers, mums and dads who make these events such a success and such a big part of our annual social calendar.

And there is lots more to come in the next few months! So busy this Karratha!
