On Friday at the REAP lawns and Saturday afternoon and evening at the Vic Hotel – now
Gananlili Centre we saw the launch of the Red Earth Arts Festival at the Red Earth Arts
Precinct.
It was wonderful to see the community out in droves for both these events.
The Red Earth Arts Festival is the City of Karratha’s signature arts festival and one of the
largest regional arts festival in Australia.
Over the years the festival has become a highlight of the City’s annual events calendar but
this year is particularly special because it’s our 10 th year.
Marking this milestone is an opportunity to reflect on the evolution of the arts and culture
landscape over the past decade.
The quantity and variety of arts and cultural experiences has significantly increased during
the past 10 years and Council is proud of our contribution to provide more opportunities for
our community to embrace the arts, through our ongoing commitment to events such as this
festival.
This year’s Red Earth Arts Festival launch took place at the precinct for the second year,
with events taking place at the Ganilili Centre in Roebourne, community halls in Dampier and
Point Samson, the Wickham Community Hub and picture gardens, Port Walcott Yacht Club
and Cossack.
Since opening, the Red Earth Arts Precinct has become a hub for contemporary arts and
continues to attract high calibre musicians and performing and visual artists, which is great
for anyone with an appetite for music, dance, theatre and film.
Thanks to our principal partner Rio Tinto for their ongoing support of the Red Earth Arts
Festival and this year’s sponsors, the WA Government through Tourism WA, Pilbara Ports
Authority and Kennards Hire.
I encourage you to view the program at www.reaf.com.au and embrace another fun, family-
friendly festival.
