TRY LOCAL CASH - 29/07/2020

This week approximately 8500 households across all City of Karratha towns will receive a letter entitling them to $100 worth of free cash, which can be spent at over 130 local businesses.

We call this Try Local Cash.

Try Local Cash was one of nine initiatives aimed at supporting our local businesses and the community through the effects of COVID-19. We developed these initiatives following feedback from you, our community via the COVID Community Survey and they were endorsed by Council at the June 30 Ordinary Council Meeting.

Finding a way to encourage local people to spend locally has been an objective of the Karratha & Districts Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KDCCI) for some time now and with the assistance of the City and Rio Tinto we have together created a very efficient method of distributing money to local businesses via a mobile phone app.

Rio Tinto has financed development of the app and the City is pleased to be providing up to $850,000 cash that can be accessed through it.

In the letter we send to your household you will receive instructions on how to download the Try Local app, how to redeem your cash and you will be given a unique security code. You will need to choose a pin code and then you will be set to start spending!

You will find the app is easy to use and whether you choose to stretch out your money by using the cash in small amounts – say for your daily coffee - or treat it as a $100 discount on that big item you’ve been eyeing up, every dollar spent will go back into local businesses. You will be supporting our community, our local economy and enabling our business sector thrive once again.

This and out other initiatives are supported and jointly funded by Rio Tinto and form the second tranche of support measures provided by Council since March this year, equalling a total value of $4.3 million.

Try Local cash can be redeemed at more than 130 local businesses from 1 August until 30 September 2020 and I encourage everyone to make the most of this incentive and support local.
