Over the Australia Day long weekend, we celebrated the valuable contribution and commitment of many volunteers and volunteer organisations.
The community spirit of these dedicated individuals and groups is exceptional and really makes our towns such great places to live.
Volunteers selflessly put their hands up to invest their time, energy and experience without expecting anything in return and often fly under the radar in terms of their work behind the scenes across various clubs, groups and causes.
I would like to congratulate our 2020 Australia Day Award recipients: Citizen of the Year Damien Muller, Young Citizen of the Year Chanti McHenry, Community Service Award winner Red Dog 4WD Club, Environmental Achievement Award winner Amanda Ridout, Community Spirit Award winner Tanya Sholl and Event/Activity of the Year, the Roebourne Races, delivered by the Nor West Jockey Club. Your efforts to give back to your community benefit everyone who calls the City of Karratha home.
I would also like to acknowledge each of the nominees for their passion for improving their community and thank those who took the time to submit nominations that highlight the positive impact each and every volunteer has made.
While we officially celebrate our volunteers on Australia Day through these awards, rest assured that your work does not go unnoticed and is appreciated throughout the year.
