Last Sunday I had the privilege of officially opening our wonderful new Wickham Community Hub.
This $16.35 million project has been a long time in the making but we completed an extensive community consultation process at the beginning to ensure that everyone had their say and the final building was one that would be appreciated and used by all.
So it was great to see the community turn out in droves to tour this beautiful new, high quality facility and celebrate the completion of the hub.
Located in the heart of Wickham, this contemporary building will connect the community and provide a new home for enhanced services and programs that cater to the current and future needs of residents and visitors.
Not only will the Wickham Community Hub improve the town’s amenity, but it will serve as a centre of connection for the close-knit community who have been working with us every step of the way through the consultation and planning stages, right through to construction and all the exciting preparations ahead of the doors opening to the public for the first time.
I would like to particularly thank Wickham Community Chaplain, the Rev Richard Goscombe for his marvellous assistance in the community consultation process, chairing the group we established for the purpose.
The facility’s many multipurpose indoor and outdoor spaces were in use at the open day, with the library, childcare and playgroup spaces, youth centre and office spaces all on show, which was fantastic to see.
The Wickham Community Hub is a great example of Council’s strong track record in delivering high standard community facilities, as part of our ongoing commitment to ensure the vibrancy and liveability of all of the towns within the City of Karratha.
